Stuart Jones is an outdoor landscape painter living in Newcastle upon Tyne. Born in 1981, he gained an MA in Fine Art at Newcastle University in 2007 and a PGCE in Art Education at Northumbria University in 2008. Stuart regularly shows his work in national and regional exhibitions and is a founding member of the painting group Plein Air North East.
Working 'en plein air' or 'in the open air' from life in the landscape is what drives Stuart’s work. His goal is to convey a sense of the light, mood and atmosphere when painting on location and his work is characterised as being impressionistic in style. He finds that seeing and recording directly from nature develops an immediacy and energy to his brushwork. Every mark is of the moment with each painting developed using the fat over lean process. Stuart is continually inspired by man's presence in the landscape, the different seasons and capturing a sense of the light.
