Colour is the overriding influence in my work. I start with a wide brush mark on a blank surface and the choice of colour is decided in the moment. From this initial brush stroke the painting develops. I use collage as I add or remove paint. Original imagery and ideas come from my daily seated meditation practice as ethereal concepts, seeds of possibilities, which then are made whole by the act of painting itself. This work has for me a sense of movement yet balance, and within that a possibility of wisdom. The tile ‘Solomon’ comes from a torn piece of the novel ‘North & South’ by Elizabeth Gaskell.
