In the Thames estuary, water and land come close to merging. Drainage ditches for the fields produce dark wells which are almost black, and at the end of summer this one was in stark contrast to the bleached grasses around it. For inspiration I like to seek in nature textures which I can reproduce in thread, and the spindly grass plus smooth, black mirror surface of the water inspired me immediately.
