Navy Collage Boats was inspired by the Cornish coastline and the high vantage points from the cliffs. I chose to paint from above to focus on how we inhabit these spaces. This is often required when drawing architectural plans and details. In this instance, the focus was on 3 paddle boarders floating idly alongside the coastline. As opposed to the regimented forms of the urban landscape, the abstraction of the natural landscape is captured by playful and sweeping brushstrokes which avoid forming a fixed edge or border to the composition.
