'Lemons' is part of a series of small works on paper made at the end of 2022 as an exploration of the simplification of composition, colour palette and style. As a natural maximalist it is very hard to resist filling every space with some sort of pattern or feature - adding lots of texture with coffee grounds mixed into the paint helped me leave the background as a block colour that gave this a very graphic quality, but didn't feel 'flat'.
