Polylith is a mixed-media mini-series, combining painting with collagraphy. While the first one is an abstract self-portrait, the second piece is a composition of seemingly random shapes, reflecting our own parts of the body. In my work I deal with personal themes on human connection and the ‘uneasiness’ of the mind, aiming to grasp what it is that makes us human. Using contemporary and historic artefacts as a reference point, both works are inspired by Soviet propagandistic sculptures in particular. Our own body was and is, a token for the same longings we have had throughout history, like love and belonging, trimmed to relentless self-optimisation in an attempt to fulfil them. With both works I thus aim to cross the bridge of time, showing that they have always accompanied us throughout the centuries, being a key to several political agendas, no matter how different they seem from each other.
